In the course of developing land, wetlands are often impacted. Due to the values wetlands provide to nature and society, compensatory wetlands are constructed to replace those that were lost, and ideally, the ecosystem services and species habitats as well. Replicating the lost wetland is rarely a straightforward challenge, and is subject to significant regulatory review. Such projects are not undertaken lightly.
ELM has the skills and knowledge to develop the plans needed to successfully replicate lost wetlands, and supervise their execution. Principal Brian Colleran is a Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP), and a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), and currently serves as a volunteer wetlands regulator. He has a long history in the restoration of ecosystems and has authored regulatory requirements for wetland replications. His combination of ecological and regulatory expertise makes him uniquely qualified to help such projects succeed.
